Given my background, they put me to work writing about some of the most complex electronic products Crutchfield sells: car amplifiers, digital signal processors, wiring, professional sound mixers, and PA systems. They actually pay me to ramble on, rant, and explain the things I love about music, electronics, and getting good sound.

In 2006, I finally came to my senses and got this job at Crutchfield. Eventually I moved back to Charlottesville, Virginia and opened a small demo recording studio. Our customers were recording studios, nightclubs, and touring bands. Working in a music store in Austin, Texas, I spent a few years manufacturing, installing, repairing, and operating sound systems. After college, I joined a rock 'n roll band as the soundman and learned how to lug around and operate the gear that helps make music sound good and loud. I worked in my high school's stage crew, running sound, lights, and a movie projector. I took courses in radio and electronics as a teenager, and became a ham radio operator. I always got them back together again and working. You definitely get what you pay for here.I've been tinkering with electronics ever since I was a kid - starting with taking apart and putting back together televisions and radios. You can connect these versatile Type-S Series speakers to your factory stereo for an immediate sonic improvement, or hook them up to a powerful aftermarket stereo or amp for increased performance.

At the very least, if I'd have realized the grille issue I should have just gone for the Type R ones. The sonic specialists at Alpine optimize their SPS-619 6'x9' speakers for great range and impressive tone definition, even at low power levels. In hindsight I should have not been lazy and gone ahead and done the conversion work to put in 6.5 components as I thought of doing. To have to go out and spend another $20 on grilles I may as well have purchased the Type R speakers.

You have to buy those separately! This was something I took for granted maybe and did not read close enough.

To get the best sound out of them I feel you really need an eq to try to overcome their frequency short comings.Īnother point that I felt was a bit sub standard was that they do NOT come with speaker grilles. I'd rank them in with if you just wanted something to listen to, did not want to spend a lot of cash on them, then these might be okay. If you've listened to high end quality speakers then you will definitely notice the difference with these.
